To present a project to AIDE AFRICA

Dear Director,

Greetings and lots of good wishes from DR Congo.

I am a roman Catholic Priest , A missionary priest of The Missionaries of Africa-White Fathers. I am working in the Diocese of Mahagi/Nioka in the South-Eastern part of Congo. I am working as a youth chaplain and the director of the Mgr Marcel UTEMBI, Catholic Youth Center of Mahagi. I am also, the provincial delegate of the White Fathers here in our Sector ITURI. The Youth Center is named after Mgr Marcel UTEMBI who is the the current president of the Bishops conference of DRCongo. Our center is basically for intellectual formation,vocational training socio-cultural formation, and spiritual formation which sums it all.

For our intellectual formation we have basically a library in order to facilitate and to build again the culture of reading among youths. We welcome students from University, proffs, and teachers for scientific research and studies. We really have youths and students coming to read and to make research in our library during the day and in the evening. We have many students in the evening coming because the conditions in their homes are not conducive for studies and some of them have time for studies only in the evening.

So when they come they feel frustrated because the center has NO LIGHTS (electricity). some of them light candles in the evening just to study for few hours but again, this is even more dangerous for their sight. They do this because there is no other option.

We also don’t have the needed and recommended books for them. Some of our dictionaries are very old. There is really a pressure on us to update our library and our study halls.

As the director of the center, I have received some students complaining of candles and lack of light for studies in the evening. Some bring lists of recommended books to my office. This is why we want to install a solar energy system for our youth center and to help students continue their studies in a good condition. We also have a project of updating our library with recommended books for schools and institutions in our center.

It’s my humble request to your office if you could help us to know the conditions for submitting a project to AIDE AFRICA.
