PROJECT OF FIGHT AGAINST HUNGER

The core problem currently facing Rwandan’s is livelihood insecurity. Already the most densely populated country in Africa, a growing population is making ever increasing demands upon Rwanda’s natural resources and its fragile, hilly, ecosystems. With 87% of the population depending upon agriculture, ever more marginal land is being cleared for cultivation, but because of the limited use of agricultural inputs especially improved seeds, the poor application of soil conservation techniques and small plot sizes, crop productivity is low. Consequently, a high number of the rural population lives below the poverty line, with few livelihood opportunities, beyond agriculture, open to them.
